Can Samsung Galaxy S6 beat Apple iPhone 6 sales?
Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phone, the never ending battle between the two most popular smartphones in the world. While the Apple iPhone revolutionized the touch screen phone market, Samsung Galaxy phones made smartphones more popular to the masses. The Apple iPhone is dominating the premium smartphone market since the debut in 2007. Samsung is giving tough competition to iPhone with their Android powered Galaxy phones.
Last year Apple unveiled iPhone 6 and its bigger sibling iPhone 6 Plus. Apple refined the design of the phones and gradually upgraded their hardware. Both phones are running the latest and greatest version of iOS. According to many sources, Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are the most successful iPhones till date. Combined the sales of both phones, it is clear that it broke all previous records. Apple shipped more than 61 million iPhones in Q2 of 2015. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus contributed most of the sales.
Samsung was no slouch either, this year they released the most awaited Galaxy S6. This time not just one, they released two phones, a regular Galaxy S6 and the curved S6 Edge. In the past Samsung was always been criticized for the poor build quality and bloated software on their phones, but this time Samsung listened to their consumer feedbacks and designed the phones from the scratch. That’s how ‘Project Zero’ started.
The new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are the most powerful and most beautiful phones from the Korean giant. The use of high quality materials like Aluminum and glass added the premium touch to the phones which consumers have been asking for a long time. On the software side the new TouchWiz skin has been slimmed down by 40% to make it run faster and it is now more customizable. Samsung put the best 16 MP camera in the market equipped with fast F 1.9 lens and OIS. They fulfilled most of the demands, but on the other hand, they removed the micro SD card slot and removable battery which received mixed response from the consumers.
But was all these enough to challenge the domination of the Apple iPhone?
70 million of shipments, that’s what Samsung was predicting at the end of this year. This seems more optimistic than practical from the Samsung’s end. The initial sales report was positive. Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were selling like hot cakes. Samsung started a new factory to speed up the production of S6 Edge to meet the demands. Reports claimed that almost half of sales consisted of Galaxy S6 Edge which was surprising as it was $100 more expensive than the regular Galaxy S6 and previous curved screen phones like Galaxy Note Edge failed to create any impact in the market.
More than two months passed from the release date, now we are getting a clearer picture of the sales figures. It took almost one month to ship first 10 million S6 and S6 Edge units. While this figure looks good, the Samsung Galaxy S5 reached this milestone a little earlier.
In homeland Korea, Samsung is struggling with the sales of their latest flagship. According to a recent report from Taiwan, Samsung apparently cutting the component orders by 16%. This means the demand is slowing down. According to Samsung they are meeting internal sales target and now they are predicting to ship 50 million instead of 70 million units at the end of this year which seems achievable.
Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge failed to break the records of Apple iPhone 6 and 6S. But the gap is closing fast. It will be interesting to see what Samsung brings with the next iteration of Galaxy S series to fight back with the next generation iPhone.
If we forget about the sales figures and other rivalry, no matter which phone you buy, you will be satisfied as these brands are the two of the best mobile phones available today, iiNet offers phone plans for both. Apple iPhone 6 & 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge all are very able phones in the market. You cannot go wrong with either.
Apple has it’s own fans i can’t think Samsung can even touch the massive market of the apple. but samsung has also a great market to cover. they should go for that market and they will surely get success.
