The latest version of Bitdefender Internet Security application is out and as usual it is named as Bitdefender Internet Security 2013. It’s an upgraded and improved version of the award wining Bitdefender Internet Security 2012. This time Bitdefender has introduced plenty of new functionalities and features to it. Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 offers all the functionalities of an advanced antivirus as well as internet security application including extra security features like parental control, spam protection, safe deletion of file, etc. This internet security suite is fully compatible with the latest Windows 8 operating system.

What’s new in Bitdeferder Internet Security 2013?

Before starting the review let’s see what’s new and improved in Bitdefender Internet Security 2013. Some of you might be using the earlier version of security suite for a long time, so for them I’m mentioning the new features included:

  • Autopilot mode silently selects optimal security settings for maximum protection.
  • For safe online banking Bitdefender Safepay is included.
  • A new Security Widget which works independently uses less memory and supports drag and drop feature.
  •  Bitdefender USB Immunizer is also included which protects your USB devices from malware attack.
  • Enhanced Parential Control features to block inappropriate contents and websites.
  • Two-way firewall to protect Wi-Fi network from hackers.
  • Apart from these Bitdefender has improved its dashboard, anti spam and safe box.

Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 has been awarded as Best Security Software by AV-TEST on November 2012.

The installation package size is huge; it’s around 250MB. The whole installation process took around 10-15 minutes and can take more time if you have a slow Internet connection. The installation starting interface looks pretty impressive at first glance, however there is no option for custom installation. So you won’t be able to disable certain features in which you’re not interested, instead you have to install the whole package along with all features in one go. And as a result you may see some unexpected add-ons or toolbars in your internet browsers.

The Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 starts quick scanning just after the installation of the application. Surprisingly the application doesn’t ask to restart computer after concluding the installation which is definitely a plus point. All the services get activated and whole application starts working effectively just after the installation.

Talking about the interface, it’s again pretty impressive and the screenshot of same is attached below.

All the functionalities can be viewed and operated from the main screen comfortably. You can enable or disable important features like auto scan, anti-phishing feature, auto-update and lot of more similar features.  Overall, all frequently used  features are just few clicks away and can be enabled, disabled or operated right from the welcome interface. Apart from this, I didn’t get to see and bombing of irritated notifications, in fact the application itself manages all the casual cases itself in the background. Moreover, it automatically disables the windows firewall and sometimes windows defender to avoid any possible causes of conflicts.

Another cool feature I look about the application is that you can configure the certain modules to work either aggressively or normally and exceptionally you can even disable them.

Issues:

Although it has plenty of features but somehow still it lacks few features like unavailability of encryption protection, anti-theft feature, PC tune-up tools and few more. After using the internet security application for a few days, I feel the following issues with the application:

  • First is the unavailability of custom installation and options to disable the automatic integration of browser extension/add-ons and toolbars.
  • The help section or module seems to be pretty weak and don’t explain everything in a depth.
  • It does include various features but some features are not accessible right from the welcome screen and as a result you have to dig them yourself deep inside the application.
  • There’s no option for scheduling antivirus scans which is pretty irresponsible.

Verdict: 

The new Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 seems to be much more effective in handling all the security issues. The virus detection is really quick and all other protection is served confidently and effectively. It is highly trusted and recommended too. It works on all versions of Windows operating system like Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Pricing of Bitdefender Internet Security is good, you can get 1 year 1 PC license for $22 and 3 PC license for $37.
