How to Search Wikipedia with Google Chrome The Pro Way
It is a known fact that any search engine can be set as the default search engine in Google Chrome. By default, Google has been set as the default search engine in Chrome. But there are other options too, which include Yahoo, Bing, and Rediff. Did you know that you can set Wikipedia too as the default search engine in Chrome?
But how to do that? Any why? Setting Wikipedia has the default search engine in Chrome has lots of benefits. Like, if you are a research student or someone who uses the internet mostly for getting information, then this can be a boon for you, as, Wikipedia is the largest encyclopedia in the history of mankind. Though it is crowdsourced, it’s accuracy isn’t doubted by the most.
Once you set that as a default search engine and search something just by typing your query in the URL box, the Wikipedia site will open up showing the results. Cool, right? And how to set that as the default search engine? Scroll down.
#Step 1 : Navigating to the Settings Section in Chrome
Open your Chrome browser and click on the Wrench icon found at the top right. Now click the “Settings” button and once you are in, go to the “Search” engine available there.
#Step 2 : Heading to “Manage Search Engines”
In the “Settings” section we just saw, click on “Manage Search Engines”. The available search engines that you can set as default one are shown. Below them lies the option for you to add your own search engine.
This is where our job is. In this “Other Search Engines” section, add the name “Wikipedia” in the first text box and the Wikipedia URL (en.wikipedia.org) in the second text box and the below code in the third text box. And then click OK.

#Step 3 : Making Wikipedia Default
Once you add Wikipedia to the list, you can make it default by just clicking on the “Make Default” button available over there.
And now, it’s time to rock and roll. Just search something by typing in the address bar and the browser will revert you with the results in Wikipedia site. Hope that helped you. If you’ve any doubts while setting it up, drop a comment and we’ll help you out ! 🙂
