MTS MBlaze Review: Internet Speed Test, Data Plan and Modem Pricing
MTS Mblaze is a high-speed wireless internet service by Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited. Currently MTS MBlaze connection is available in India. It can offer download speed up to 3.1 Mbps and upload speed up to 1.8 Mbps. MTS MBlaze works on EVDO Rev. A which is based on CDMA technology. In India EVDO internet connection is available from companies like BSNL, Reliance, Tata and MTS. Reliance NetConnect+ and Tata Photon Plus (now known as Tata Docomo) are the biggest competitor of MTS MBlaze. Today I’m doing MTS MBlaze review to test the actual speed.

MTS MBlaze Modem Driver and Dialer :
MTS is offering two types of modems with MBlaze connection, one manufactured by ZTE and other by Huawei. I’ve got a Huawei EC1561 modem which has MicroSD slot as well. The modem supports plug and play, that means the modem drivers come within the modem and it will be automatically get installed on computer once you plug-in the modem. Huawei EC1561 works on almost all operating systems like Windows XP, Vista and 7, Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 and some major Linux operating systems like Ubuntu, openSUSE, Fedora, Debian, Mandriva, Red Flag.
The modem dialer is simple and easy to use. You don’t need to manually configure any settings here, just plug in the modem and hit the ‘connect’ button. Modem dialer has a data counter feature to calculate data usage. It will come handy for Data limited plans. Data balance, phone number of modem can be checked directly from the dialer.
MTS Mblaze Speed Test:
MTS MBlaze review will be incomplete without doing the internet speed test. MBlaze works on EVDO Rev. A technology that means download and upload speed will reach up to 3.1 Mbps and 1.8 Mbps respectively. These values are theoretical, in real life the speed may be lower. Speed of wireless internet connection depends on various factors like distance from nearby base station, number of users,signal strength, etc. To get the best speed we have to find a location where signal strength is maximum. If you are using a laptop, then try different locations to find the sweet spot. If you are using a desktop computer, then you can use a USB extension cable.
I’ve done some speed test of MTS MBlaze modem. Most of the time download speed varies between 2.5- 3.0 Mbps and upload speed is around 0.7 -1.2 Mbps. While using Internet Download Manager (IDM) I’ve managed to get 300+ KBps speed. Here is the MTS MBlaze speed test result-
720p HD YouTube videos play without any buffering. The graphics heavy web page loads very fast and over all I’m very happy with the speed of MTS MBlaze speed.
MTS MBlaze Data Plan and Modem Price:
MTS MBlaze data card is available for around Rs 1100 which comes with free 6GB data for first 30 days. By paying Rs 200 extra you can get 10GB data for the first month. Both pre paid and post paid plans are available. MTS doesn’t offer any true unlimited plans, all plans have FUP (Fair Usage Policy) and your speed will be capped to 144 kbps (1x mode) after a certain amount of data is consumed in a month. In only Kolkata and West Bengal circle MTS is offering night unlimited plan at Rs 303 550 which offers true unlimited data at night (12 a.m– 6 a.m) for one month. MTS MBalze data card online recharge can be done from MTS website or by calling their helpline number.

I am using MTS MBlaze from last one year.. But I never got this much speed. I am only satisfied with its surfing speed. Download Speed is as slow as tortoise. Even I have wandered in each room taking laptop along with MBlaze data e-stick. Is there any proxy setting that can help me in getting some good speed ?? Or please tell me any high speed DNS number ??
Hi Dhruv, In my place the number of MBlaze users is very less. So I get maximum speed from it. Keep the modem near window, it may help to get better speed. I’m not using any proxy or DNS. Google DNS is good, you can use that.
So, I am getting equal speed as before.
As told by you, I went to terrace with my laptop and MTS. It was quite better than before. But still, the hot summer is so frustrating. So, I am back to surfing with normal speed. Thanks for your ideas 🙂
i used MTS for 6 months and never got such awesome speed 🙂 maybe you are right the number of users must be affecting my speed…

The speed you get depends on many factors and one cannot expect to get the same speed as Plaban is getting.Some of the factors affecting your speed are:
Signal Strength
Number of Users Active
Distance from Nearest Cell Tower
Interference
SNR Ratio
signal strength: full bars. No. of users active: net activity around 00:00 am-2:00 am. So no. of users expected to be less. Distance from tower: 500 mtr. (confirmed). Interference: no monuments, buildings, trees etc. higher than my apartment in 200 mtr. range. SNR ratio: hard to tell. MTS connection mgr. lacks this feature. Net speed in the 1st month: 2.2 Mbits. 2nd month: 400kbps-600kbps. 3rd month: 300 kbps-500 kbps. 4th month: no idea! had dumped it by then already!
I too used Mts mblaze for awhile, here is my experience
First month speed – 300 to 400 kbps
Second month speed – 150 to 200 kbps
after six month speed – maximum 50 kbps
Current – Mblaze is somewhere in my dustbin 🙂

Me too. After 6 months, getting 100kbps and barely touch 130kbps after 11pm. First month got 500kbps sometimes, but 300kbps constant.
I wants to file a case against them for misleading customer. I have all the conversation on email regarding speed. but they are just fooling the customers. if the user is increasing so this is their problem how to manage. what they promised they are not offering now i m complaining regularly.

BSNL EVDO wud b da last thing on this planet u shud go after if u r looking 4 a fast n speedy net service. speed never exceeds 200 kbps-500 kbps. & always fluctuates like hell.
I agree. EVDO is so slow that you won’t be able to consume more than 5-6 GB each month, even if you use it 24×7.

My experience with Mbaze was a Disaster! l was on a roll in the 1st month, getting 2 mbps speed round the clock! then came the 2nd month & they started showing their true colors gradually! speed was long gone & l was struggling @ 400-600 kbps! calling cust. care didnt help at all. By the end of the 3rd month l was totally fed up & exhausted with it already & had to dump it eventually!

I have absolutely no idea of how is this possible..with IDM i can get only 90 kbps speed at max..most of the times downoading speed hovers around 30-40 kbps at peak..with increasing rate of consuming data speed can go down to as low as 10 kbps for http downloads and 2 kbps for torrent downloads..its damn slow..and it can hardly play 10 seconds of 360p youtube videos without buffering..in fact i have never been able 2 play any youtube videos by streaming using mblaze even when its speed is at its peak..Its only good bcoz it can be hacked
Is tata photon + is better than mts m blaze? 1-in network 2-in speed 3-in plans.
Tata photon 3G is barely better than MTS 3G+. I like the consistency of Tata Photon. 250kbps download and 120kbps upload 2 yr back and still now same.

The Most Horrible Service provider – MTS Mblaze. Speeds are frustratingly slow. Never Buy. I am not sure about any other competing brands, neither am I trying to endorse any other service provider here. I personally felt that Mts Mblaze was the most disappointing service provider you can ever deal with.

Internet speed depends on various factors. You may not get same speed on all places.
I didn’t know that MTS is also available in India, I thought it’s only for Russia and some Eastern Europe & Middle Asia countries. Anyway, I was never able to have such speeds here in Russia too. Also, mbps = megabyte per second or megabit per second? If latter, than it’s almost the same. Nevertheless, how come you could watch 720p clips on YouTube with such speed? I have troubles watching even 240p! Most of the times, it’s unstable as hell, so the only option is to download video, not stream, which is quite cumbersome.
FYI. 2.81 mbps = 359 kbytes/sec, and it’s not much. ADSL is around 2 mbytes/sec (16 mbps), which is okay for streaming HD video.
Yes, MTS is operating in India since last few years. The speed mentioned in the article is Megabyte per second. MTS is using EVDO Rev. A technology which supports maximum 3.1 Mbps download speed (~396 kBps). In real life it’s providing around 2.8 Mbps speed which is good enough.
Here’s excerpt from Wikipedia article about EVDO Rev A technology: “The EV-DO feature of CDMA2000 networks provides access to mobile devices with forward link air interface speeds of up to 2.4 Mbit/s with Rel. 0 and up to 3.1 Mbit/s with Rev. A.” So I was right, it’s megaBITs and not megaBYTEs. It’s quite lame compared to HSPA+ (168 Mbit/s) or LTE (299.6 Mbit/s). Both technologies offered in Russia, but the coverage area is very small, mostly in downtown areas in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
I have been using it over a 8 months … It can reach max of 300 kb/s (like you said) with idm , but most of the time i am stuck with 100-150 kb/s .
Signal is pretty good , but i think that i don’t like is it recharge plan , they are pretty heavy. Even if you are paying thousands buck you wont get constant speed through the month it falls after you have consume 10 gb .
therefore i have swith to reliance broadband now which give 12 mb/s speed for 1k for 25 gb and then constant 1 mb/s . it’s a wired connection though.
Conclusion
After using mblaze for such a long time i reliased that it’s only worth if you want portability otherwise it cost lots of money..

The speed test results are laughable. You may be sitting MTS headquarters and checking for the speed. The download speed that I get with MTS is ~120-150 kbps and upload happens at 40% of the download speed.
I live in Bangalore and I use a Huawei dongle and recharge for Rs. 999/month. I hop this is the last time I recharge an MTS. I shall switch to BSNL broadband.
The service may be bad but atleast they provide the best speeds at the lowest rates.

Well I’m getting pretty decent speed with mblaze I’m using 5gb+unlimited plan but the speed remains the same even after 5gb, I got max. 216 KiloByte/s in torrent i.e. like 1.7 Mbps and it almost 150 KBps most of the time. So I’m pretty happy with that. 🙂
can this EC1561 BE UNLOCKED?
i am using mts , the ridiculous thing i experience is my downloading speed (0.06Mbps) is even slower than uploading one (0.3Mbps). how can i overcome this ??? 🙁
This is a wrong information. MTS has the worst speed among all data cards in India. MTS is a fraud company. It promises speed upto 3.1 mbps with its MBLAZE but its a big advertisement hoax. I wished the company would have been banned in India. They are fleecing and looting the consumers. All I get is just 30-40 kbps and not even 1 mbps speeds. I loose a lot of time and energy with MTS as its the worst broadband provider in Delhi. I had switched to Photon as its lot better than MTS. Here is my actual experience of using MTS MBlaze in Delhi. The response by MTS highest body – the appellate authority is being shown for proof. The reply of MTS in response to my complaint is as:

We reaffirm that we are fully sensitized to your concerns expressed and taking complete note of your complaint. It is unfortunate that your experience is not satisfactory and we deeply regret the discomfort you have gone through.
With reference to your e-mail regarding MDN 9136XXXXX about speed issue we would like to inform you that as mentioned in our previous mail also the complaint has already been closed stating that the location is in the poor network coverage area and highly utilized due to which you are facing the speed issue. As per the network team 100-150 KBPS is the maximum speed which you will get. Also, we would like to inform you that if any improvement in your location our concerned team will inform you accordingly.

well i can confirm one thing that if this mts is the same company thats in Canada Manitoba region its a very profit minded organization even when they give unlimited plans they throttle speed after 50% data expenditure to make sure u cant use it all! Latest problem bit torrent client show i have no incoming connection while i use mts and dont you guys dare tell me the about firewall and all because i have used a different isp same time to cross check setting and u know what i got and amazing speed of 350kbps+ on the same torrent same time.

please please please don’t buy mts internet. it is really very bed product . I always getting only 23kbps speed while it was commitment for up to 9.8 mbps. mts is third class product for internet . I am facing exactly same issue …. sales representative claimed that 2 mbps would be provided round the clock… bt getting only 30 kbps max…. SR not picking my phone.. Customer care says MTS is responsible for providing 0.75 MBps only…most pathetic co. ever
Hi, I live in Guindy, Chennai. With the Mblaze 40GB Data plan, be aware that there is a download limit of 20GB after which your torrent download gets throttled for the remaining 20GB.
When you reach the first 20GB, regardless of what you download or how you download contents (either be it torrent/ IDM or even the right click >save as), your torrent download speed gets limited to 10KB/s after you cross your first 20GB limit.
I wasn’t made aware of this by the sales person (typical…) or didn’t come across anything anywhere in the MTS website or anywhere else for that matter during my research. Disappointing!!!
Be aware about this before you move forward with your purchase.

I lodged a complaint regarding speed issue on Oct 13 2014(OCT/3758) but there is no action till now . I called them again on 24th Oct , They were saying that i need to follow the technical team and sort the issue.
Then for what the customer service is?
My data card speed was about 1.2 kbps maximum as they promised 3.1 Mbps.
This is MTS. Excellent MTS and MTS Customer care.

From last some days MTS speed was horrible, so I requested to disconnect.
But now they are demanding extra cost and not returning my security deposit.

FRAUD SERVICE PROVIDER THIEF ALERT
MTS are FRAUD. They have started stealing data recently & does not respond to customer complaints as well.
They took away all my days high speed & are not ready to share the usage details as well.
Also on top of that they have the audacity to ask me to buy extra high speed plans.
I raised a complaint at customer service & they have closed the case without any resolution. customer service sucks. They disconnect calls, they shout on customers, managers are never available & many more issue. Actually these are most unprofessional people.
I would strongly recommend no one to get MTS now. They are THIEFS.
